Subaru WRX STI spec.D, UK only

Subaru says the "D" in spec.D stands for "discreet." But the new WRX STI spec.D introduced at this week's Autosport International Show seems anything but subtle.

The latest high-performance sedan from Fuji Heavy Industries is based on the face-lifted 2006 Impreza, fitted with a 280-horsepower, turbocharged 2.5-liter engine and priced in Britain from around $50,000 U.S. The first models will go on sale in March.

The Impreza Spec.D (D is for discreet) clocks the same performance numbers as its less spec'd WRX STI sibling, but has limited-slip diffs in the front and rear, an updated gearshift and an intercooler cooler that allows the driver to spray cold water on the unit via a dash button. The discreet part refers to its lack of gaudy blue paint and gold rims, tunnel-baiting rear spoiler and black-on-black interior.
