This is the biggest Subaru ever, weighing more than 4,100 pounds, but it´s no slug. The three-liter, 250-horsepower six-cylinder engine from the Outback gives it plenty of oomph for acceleration. It leaps off the line, making sports car noises. Fortunately, for an SUV it´s also relatively quiet on the highway, with a cushioning ride that absorbs bumps. The interior layout is very comfortable, and the kids loved the DVD player. Fuel economy is mediocre: 18 mpg in its urban habitat, 23 on the highway.
